As students move from Year 7 and into Year 8 they are faced with new challenges that we expect them to tackle with positivity and resilience. We are proud of the foundations the Year 8 team have built in Year 7 and are now moving to build these further as students progress to the next stage.
All pupils have settled into OCA life, made new friendships and enjoyed new subjects and experiences. This year we will build on the foundations of Year 7 and I look forward to seeing all students develop and thrive even more this year.
Advice and Guidance
Year 8 is about learning more subject specific skills, developing independence and showing the school values throughout their daily life.
Students will be given updates on their attendance, behaviour and progress from form tutors and subject teachers. Their Head of Year and Assistant Head of Year are there to offer support and guidance. Should parents/carers require any support or have any questions regarding their child then they should not hesitate to contact their form tutor, teacher or Head of Year.
Enrichment
We offer a broad enrichment programme to help develop core skills for students. This is an opportunity for students to flourish outside of the classroom and extend their core skills. Each pupil can partake in an enrichment gaining new skills and developing confidence in areas they may not have tried before. Enrichment is a positive way to flourish and build upon our core values.
Attendance and Punctuality
Attendance is of the up most importance to all pupils. Students should aim for 97% or above and if possible 100%. Punctuality to both school and lessons is also just as important as valuable learning time can be lost if students are not punctual. All students are expected to turn up to school and lessons on time, fully equipped and ready to learn as this is a valuable skill that needs to be developed for their future.
Working Together
School life is not just about academic success. We want students to leave OCA with the confidence and skills to have a successful future and thrive at whatever they chose to do. We need families, students and school to work together to support students in their success. We want students to work as part of a team, knowing that they are valued and that they bring value. Working together is a valuable asset that we want all students to display in order to ensure their learning environment is a safe and happy one.
Targets for students in Year 8:
- Achieve 97% or higher in terms of attendance.
- Take pride in behaviour at all times and display best self around the academy.
- Build positive and long-lasting relationships with both staff and pupils in order to work collaboratively.
- Have excellent punctuality to school and lessons.
- Have an excellent attitude to learning, ensuring they bring their best efforts to each lesson.
- Show respect to everyone at all times, treating others with kindness, courtesy and understanding.
- Be your best self-everyday by making positive choices, showing confidence and taking pride in everything you do.
I have extremely high expectations and aim to ensure that every child in our Year 8 feels happy and safe within school.
