British Values
At Ormiston Chadwick Academy we are privileged to prepare our students for life in modern Britain. We ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed, taught and lived out through our Academy values of originality, community, aspirations, excellence and respect. All curriculum areas including our personal development programme, provide a vehicle for furthering students understanding providing excellent opportunities to deepen and develop appreciation of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and mutual respect. We actively promote the values and challenge opinions and behaviours in school that are contrary to fundamental British values.
Our daily Thought for the Day, which forms part of our collective worship, reflects the British Values.
Through our curriculum and provision of the Personal Development programme we:
- encourage students to develop original thought, their self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence whilst respecting views of others.
- actively encourage students to distinguish right from wrong and to respect the law of Britain whilst allowing students to ponder and reflect upon their impact in the community, teaching them further about responsibility and community cohesion.
- teach students to recognise how they can contribute positively to the local and wider community whilst highlighting aspirational opportunities.
- actively encourage students to acquire a broad general knowledge of and respect for public institutions and services in Britain.
- support and model further tolerance and harmony between different cultural traditions and beliefs by enabling students to acquire an understanding, respect and appreciation of their own and other cultures.
