Our Parents

Ormiston Chadwick is committed to working closely with parents to ensure students succeed and enjoy their life in school. There is an established link between the home learning environment at all ages and students’ performance at school. We firmly believe that our school and our parents have a shared priority to deliver the best outcomes for all of our students.

We engage with parents in numerous ways. One way is by reporting to parents on pupils’ academic progress by way of a progress report. These are sent home termly and an annual extended report is also sent home which includes written comments and details of how your child is progressing across all of their subjects by their subject teachers.

Each year group has an annual Progress Evening which are calendared at the start of the year. Parents are requested to make appointments and they may run virtually or in person, according to the current Public Health England guidelines. With regard to our Year 7 pupils, parents have the opportunity to meet with their child’s form tutor in the transition process and then meet with key staff early on in the first term in a ‘settling in’ evening. A further parents evening takes place later in the year where parents are invited to meet all subject staff.

Our partnership is not through parents’ evenings and regular reports alone. We encourage our parents to become involved in Academy life through attendance at our community and charity events such as our ‘Macmillan Coffee Morning’ and ‘Books for Breakfast’ which is our early morning reading initiative in which parents and their children read together whilst having breakfast. We welcome support from parents in our various shows, such as the Christmas Show, Dance Show and the annual school play not just as audience members but ‘behind the scenes’ too.

Parents are sent a termly newsletter with a summary of school events, careers’ updates, vital information, news stories and photographs from the term. In Years 10 and 11, revision packs and subject information packs are sent to parents.

Communication to individual parents may take then form of a phone call, a letter through the post, an email or a text. It is also recommended that you download the Edulink One app which is an online portal allowing parents to view important information regarding your child’s attendance, homework and punctuality to lessons, their achievement and behaviour at school, student timetable and their academic progress throughout the school year.

Parents of OCA pupils will be expected to abide by the following practices:

  • Ensure that your child attends the Academy regularly and on time.
  • Inform the Academy when your child is ill or has an appointment which will keep them away from Academy.
  • Ensure that your child is properly equipped for their day.
  • Support and help your child with their education as and when you can.
  • Tell the Academy when your child has a success or a concern to share.
  • Encourage your child to meet the challenges set and to do the best that they can.
  • Ask your child about their school day.
  • Support the Academy’s Code of Conduct and share responsibility for the Academy community.
  • Attend Parent/Carer Progress Evenings whenever possible.
  • Give and pass on accurate information relating to your child.
