Admissions

In accordance with the Department for Education (DfE) School Admissions Code, Halton Local Authority (LA) has agreed a coordinated scheme for admissions to primary and secondary schools.

For admission to secondary school, booklets are delivered to all primary schools, the Halton Direct Link offices and can also be requested from Halton LA’s Child Place Planning Team. Parents can also save and print their own copy of the booklet or preference form by opening the relevant booklet in PDF format on the Halton LA’s website on the following link.

If the closing date for applications has passed parents are advised to call into any of the Halton Direct Link Offices or to contact the Child Place Planning Team on 0151 511 7338 or 0151 511 8601.

Parents can also speak to Mrs Barratt, Associate Assistant Principal about their child’s move from primary school to the Academy. Parents can request a look round the school during the school day or arrange to come in and speak to Mrs Barratt to discuss any concerns or questions they may have about their child’s transition to secondary school.

Admissions Process and Criteria

Applications to join the Academy are coordinated by Halton LA. For full details on how to apply, whether this be for a Year 7 place for the next academic year or a place during the current academic year in Years 7-11, please click on the link above and select the appropriate booklet.

The Academy Trust has agreed admission numbers for the Academy for the year 2021/22 and, subject to any changes approved or required by the Secretary of State, for subsequent years.

Where the number of applications for admission is greater than the published admission number, applications will be considered against the criteria set below. After the admission of Students with statements of Special Education Needs where the Academy is named on the statement, the criteria will be applied in the order in which they are set out below

  1. Admission of children in public care;
  2. Admission of Students whose siblings currently attend the school and who will continue to do so on the date of admission. The term sibling covers elder brothers and sisters including half brothers and sisters and unrelated children living together as part of the same household.
  3. Children of staff, where the member of staff has been employed by the Academy for 2 or more years at the time of application or the member of staff was recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
  4. Admission of students living nearest to the school measured using an Ordnance Survey address point system which measures straight-line distances in kilometres or metres from the address point of the school to the address point of the place of permanent residence of the Student. In the instance of a tie regarding distance for the last place to be offered (to two decimal places in metres), a place will be offered using the electronic admission system’s random allocation function.
